From September 21st to September 22nd the International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief (IPPFoRB) invited a distinguished group of 12 female Members of Parliament to a Seminar in New York which was held in conjunction with the Trygve Lie Symposium on Fundamental Freedoms. At KAS New York they exchanged their experiences concerning the promotion of these fundamental rights in their respective countries and discussed fruitful strategies to strengthen them.
During their visit to New York Dr. Stefan Friedrich, Director of the KAS New York office took the special opportunity to interview Mrs. Eva Kusuma Sundari.
Eva Kusuma Sundari is a member of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia and vice-chair of ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights. First elected in 2004, Sundari represents the Indonesian Democratic Struggle Party (PDI-P). In Parliament, she is a member of Commission XI (2014-2019), which focuses on economics, finance, and banking. In addition to her work with APHR, she is a member of the International Task Force of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption. Before becoming a member of Parliament, Sundari was active in the women’s movement and NGOs.
