Latin America and the Caribbean have one of the richest sources of natural renewable energy of the world. They have a huge potential of non-conventional renewable energy and it’s estimated that if the region would exploit just a portion of its non-hydraulic renewable capacity, it could satisfy the demand of energy in the growing economies of the region. By the other hand, there are countries like Germany that are in the middle of energy transition with the objective that 60% of de energy consumption would come from renewable energy by 2050. Against this background, we propose the exchange of experiences between experts, academics and politicians of Latin America, the Caribbean and Germany to discuss about the political development in alternative energy.

With this background and following the discussion of the first conference in 2015, we would like to emphasize the energy policy transitions within Latin America and between the region with Germany (which is already in operation). For this purpose, the Regional Programme Energy Security and Climate Change in Latin America of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (EKLA-KAS), the South American Institute for Resilience and Sustainability Studies (SARAS) and the Climate Change Communication Network (LatinClima), organize the Second Conference "Good Governance to energy transition". The first day will focus on the new political environment after the Paris Agreement, the experience with instruments such as feed-in tariffs and auctioning, renewable energy market and a public Business Forum with an exhibition of leading projects in the region. On the other hand, the second day a discussion with Latin American policy on energy security of their countries will be held.
