Ready, Steady, Go!

The Conference on the Future of Europe is about to start

Is the European Union ready for new proposals and approaches? What measures are possible and necessary to advance the European project? What steps do we Europeans want to take together? How can we succeed in making the EU more resilient, also with a view to the time after the pandemic?

When the von der Leyen Commission started its work in December 2019, the idea of a Conference on the Future of Europe was probably the newest but also the least defined. However, after a challenging planning phase, the project can start on this year's Europe Day on 09 May. The upcoming Conference on the Future of Europe aims to involve the population, actors from economy and society as well as non-governmental organisations within Europe more closely in the decision-making and shaping processes of the European Union. The aim of Commission President von der Leyen, who is chairing the conference together with EU-Parliament President David Sassoli and the respective Council President, is not only to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation, but also to expand the dialogue between almost 450 million EU citizens and those EU institutions that represent their interests.

But is the European Union ready for new proposals and approaches? What measures are possible and necessary to advance the European project? What steps do we Europeans want to take together? How can we succeed in making the EU more resilient, also with a view to the time after the pandemic?

We would like to discuss these and other questions together with you! The European Office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung therefore cordially invites you to our kick-off event "Ready, Steady, Go! - The Conference on the Future of Europe is about to start"on Wednesday, 05 May 2021, from 15:00-16:30 in a hybrid online format. After a welcome by Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, Chairman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and a subsequent impulse by EU Commission President Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, we will discuss the significance and opportunities of the conference together with our guests Prof. Dr. Sven Simon, Member of the European Parliament, Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, Commissioner for European Affairs at the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and and publicist Diana Kinnert. The panel will be moderated by journalist Tanja Samrotzki.

The event will be held in German and simultaneously translated into English and French. Registration in advance is not necessary. Please use the link below under use of the code 838965 to participate in the online event.
