Details
This year's Konrad Adenauer Foundation Day "StandWithUkraine - Together in Europe and the World" is also and at the same time more than a demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine. With a view to our leitmotif "Together.Democracy.Shaping" and our core topics, we are engaging in the discussion on the future of Europe and our particular associated responsibility with a variety of creative discussion formats and presentations.
In addition to a number of thematic focal points, Friedrich Merz, Chairman of the CDU of Germany and the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, and the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu will discuss the cohesion of the democratic world in the face of the russian war in Ukraine at 6 pm. The debate will focus on the impact of the measures taken so far and the further options for action by the EU and its partners.
You can find out more about the various activities and programme items for the KAS Day and take part in them here. The formats are also available via livestream or zoom. You will find the access points under the respective programme items on our website.

Digital Information War – between Propaganda and Truth
Trolls, fakes and propaganda - The war is also and above all taking place in the digital space. Platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and Google are coordinators of information flows and in some cases have even taken over functions traditionally performed by the media: Their algorithms make the selection of topics.
Unfortunately, this change has taken place outside the standards of professionalism and ethics of journalism. So the danger is that it is no longer social relevance that determines whether an article is worthy of publication, but the greatest possible attention that can be achieved.
How do we deal with this? Together with national and international guests as well as scholarship holders of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung we want to explore this question in discussions and workshops.

"Turn of the tide": What does it mean for Germany?
The russian war of aggression on Ukraine represents a turning point that will require massive changes in German and European foreign and security policy. While previous assumptions, positions and actions have proven to be wrong, new structures, orientation points as well as a new mindset of a peace and security architecture are now required. All of this must be implemented internationally, at the European level, and at the national level. At the national level, the focus is on the debate about equipping the Bundeswehr - in terms of both personnel and materials. But how can the turnaround be ensured in the long term through the greatest possible acceptance among the population?

#StandWithUkraine – together in Europe and the democratic world
Ukraine is fighting for freedom, democracy, justice and security - the fundamental principles of the EU. The European Union has so far shown itself largely capable of acting in the wake of Russia's war of aggression. Coordinated agreement among EU member states makes comprehensive sanctions possible. Here, moreover, the closing of ranks with NATO, G7 and Western democracies is successfully practiced. We will discuss not only the effects of these measures, but also the further options for action by the EU and its partners. How high can the price of sanctions be for the West?

Main Topics
The leitmotif of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation "Shaping.Democracy.Together." is supported by a thematic focus. With the three main topics Innovation, Security and Representation and Participation, it is made clear which topics the Konrad Adenauer Foundation will focus on in the coming years.
Our security cannot be taken for granted. On our focus page on security, our experts explain why and where democracy, the rule of law, peace, freedom, prosperity and solidarity are at risk and what we can do to counteract them.
Innovations are indispensable if we want to solve the major challenges facing humanity. For us, these are first and foremost peace and security, freedom and justice, the integrity of creation and our prosperity. At the same time, innovations raise ethical and sociopolitical questions. On our focus page on "Innovation," our experts explain how we position ourselves in this area of tension and promote an innovation-friendly climate.
When we are asked what we do, the answer could certainly be brief: We care about democracy. Here in Germany and elsewhere in the world. On our focus page on "Representation and Participation," we explain how we accomplish this, what challenges we face, and who our partners are.
