The Konrad Adenauer Foundation's Rule of Law Programme South East Europe organizes an immersive, multi-faceted study trip to Berlin for the 4th generation of its "Leaders for Justice" program participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Over the course of six days in May 2024, the delegation of legal professionals will gain first-hand exposure to Germany's judicial system, legal education, law enforcement, and historical path to transitional justice.
The agenda will take them inside actual courtrooms to observe criminal and civil proceedings. They engaged with judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and other legal experts to understand the roles, training and organization of the legal profession in Germany. Visits to institutions like the Federal Ministry of Justice and criminal police illuminate areas like judicial cooperation across borders.
However, the learning experience extends beyond just the legal sphere. Meetings with the Bosnian embassy explores the country's EU accession prospects. A poignant "Memory Walk" guided tour reflects on Germany's efforts to confront its past. The group will even tour the Bundestag premises to learn about the historical underpinnings of Germany's basic law.
Through this comprehensive agenda featuring lectures, discussions, facility tours and interactive engagements, the next generation of legal leaders from Bosnia and Herzegovina will absorb valuable lessons and perspectives to apply in their own country's judicial journey.
