Russian influence on German domestic security has been observed for several years and in various ways. The use of physical force is one approach that the Kremlin has used on several occasions, but the promotion of destabilizing factors for democracy is another form often used by Moscow. When comparing a variety of approaches and methods, two aspects stand out: firstly, the mixing of state and non-state actors and, secondly, a hybrid exertion of influence that combines the military and the civilian and deliberately targets various areas - politics, the economy, the media, the party landscape or certain population groups.
In a total of seven articles, this volume examines the various ways in which the Russian Federation exerts influence.
• The first block focuses on the neutralization of political opponents abroad by Russian state authorities and, conversely, the protection of those same people by the Federal Republic of Germany.
• The second part focuses on the information space. On the one hand, the disinformation strategy on Telegram is analyzed and, on the other, the threats in the cyber domain are examined.
• The third thematic section focuses on the topic of right-wing extremism. Both extremist foreign fighters and Russia's influence on right-wing extremist networks are outlined.
• The volume concludes with a look at the African continent, which is characterized by the destabilization methods used by the Wagner Troops.
