Welcome to Konrad Adenauer Foundation
Freedom, justice and solidarity are the basic principles underlying the work of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). The KAS is a political foundation, closely associated with the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). As co-founder of the CDU and the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967) united Christian-social, conservative and liberal traditions. His name is synonymous with the democratic reconstruction of Germany, the firm alignment of foreign policy with the trans-Atlantic community of values, the vision of a unified Europe and an orientation towards the social market economy. His intellectual heritage continues to serve both as our aim as well as our obligation today.
KAS has been present in Ethiopia since 2019 and works for democracy, the Rule of Law, the Social Market Economy and human rights at over 120 locations (18 programs in Sub-Sahara Africa alone) worldwide. KAS is publicly-financed and receives its funding for its work in Ethiopia / with the AU from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Its activities include seminars, workshops, dialogue forums, panel discussions and scholarships. It supports exchange programs between Germany and Ethiopia / the African Union and frequently reports about the countries where it works. Among KAS’ main target groups are political parties, entrepreneurs, and the younger generation.
At the moment, KAS works in the following sectors in Ethiopia:
- Ethiopia Country Project: Rule of Law, Social Market Economy, parliamentarism, scholarships
- African Union: economy/trade, migration, multilateralism, AU reform processes
