Country reports
Three weeks ahead of the parliamentary elections on the 6th of May 2018, Lebanon and its political parties are gearing up for the first national election since 2009. Many Lebanese will vote for the first time in their life with a total share of first-time voters expected to exceed 20 percent. While past elections centered along sectarian and party alliance lines as defined by the established parties and their long-time leaders, many have highlighted the significance of the new electoral law, the role of civil society platforms and the potential of the youth in general and first-time voters in particular for the result of the 2018 elections.
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has commissioned a survey to investigate the attitudes and opinions of youth towards elections specifically targeting first time voters aged between 21 and 29 years old. This survey was conducted by Statistics Lebanon Ltd between 15.03.2018 and 02.04.2018. The sample size for this survey was n=1,200 equally distributed across gender. The sample was drawn using the Probability Proportional to Size (PPS) sampling technique. It covered all Lebanese governorates and socio-economic groups. Interviews were conducted face-to-face. Statistical data analysis was accomplished using SPSS 22 and the survey's margin of error is ±2.83%.
