Last week we were once again in Cohab II, in Carapicuíba - SP, for another edition of our Human Rights Training Course. The project is the result of KAS's partnership with Kolping Brasil, and aims to disseminate knowledge about human rights to a public of community leaders. In this edition, we debated the important issues of public policies for the elderly and people with disabilities.
It was a great experience to be in Carapicuíba once again, a city that welcomes us so well, but which has a great deal of social vulnerability, especially in the Cohab II area, one of the largest slums in the region.
The course had a captive audience of around 40 students. The first class was given by Professor Wagner Santana, who highlighted the importance of the municipal level in promoting public policies for the elderly population, as well as the importance of the Elderly Statute in celebrating rights and guaranteeing dignity. The second class was given by Professor Renata Tibyriçá, who highlighted the main public policies and legislation for people with disabilities in Brazil, as well as the daily challenges that range from diagnosis to inclusion in the world of work.
The course lasted one day and included opening speeches from the directors of KAS, Maximilian Hedrich, and Kolping Brasil, João Ederson.
