Workshop
Details
Over the last couple of years the role of the European Parliament steadily increased. As the European institution representing European citizens it has decisive influence when handling large, complex dossiers. This increased role of the European Parliament needs to be reflected in the EP’s own working methods. The President of the European Parliament, Prof. Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, made the reform of the parliamentary work one of his priorities and initiated a working group on the matter.
The first report of the special working group on parliamentary reform, chaired by Mrs Dagmar Roth-Behrendt MEP, proposes a number of concrete changes, to lead for example to more politically stimulating plenary debates. The second interim report focuses on legislative activities and interinstitutional relations.
This workshop organised by the European Office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung aims at debating these suggestions in a broader circle and discussing the consequences of the reforms.
