Navigating the EU Taxonomy

A Deep Dive into an efficient implementation of the EU regulation

Join us for a comprehensive exploration into the EU Taxonomy, spotlighting the proposed "Grace Period" as delineated in the recent research paper published by the European Office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung. The research was conducted, and the paper written by Derek Groot. This session, designed to unravel the intricacies and implications of the EU Taxonomy, will serve as a conduit for stakeholders, policymakers, and industry experts to navigate its complexities through discussion and debate.

Details

The event will commence with a succinct overview of the EU Taxonomy, segueing into a detailed exploration of the research paper, its findings, and policy recommendations. One of those is to allow companies to report for 2 or 3 reporting cycles without the threat of prosecution or penalty for potential inaccuracies in their measurements – a grace period essentially. Intended to mitigate the current data gap and the prevailing reluctance or uncertainty at the company level, often derived from a fear of overclaiming, the grace period stands out as a pivotal point of discussion. The session will further delve into the implications of implementing a grace period, where companies can employ substantiated estimations under explicit stipulations, acting as a transitional reporting tool. A thorough analysis of the policy suggestions from the research, including moderating the stringency on Minimum Safeguard Standards (MSS) and Do No Significant Harm (DNSH) principles during the grace period, will be undertaken to comprehend their impact on various stakeholders.

Engage with our experts who will dissect the research findings and provide insights into the practical implications, challenges, and future trajectories with the EU Taxonomy. This event is indispensable for policy makers, financial analysts, sustainability experts, corporate leaders, environmental consultants, and members of academia and research.

The event will take place on 22 February 2024 at 12:00h at the KAS European Office. Derek Groot from Dutch Carbon Consultants will present the conducted study and current situation. Then, we are happy to welcome Ute Schmaltz of the Association of German Banks (BDB) sharing her views with us. This will be followed by an interactive roundtable discussion, where we will discuss how to make the taxonomy efficient.
