In June 2023, the European Council called for an independent high-level report on the future of the single market to be presented at its meeting of March 2024, the last summit among leaders before the European elections. The final year of the current legislative has placed a renewed emphasis on the European single market and EU Competitiveness.European decision makers have been struggling in the last months with the question of how to both boost European industry against strong global competition and to deepen the yet to be completed single market.
