While research projects from universities, state agencies and major enterprises play an important role, groundbreaking ideas and new business models are mostly created by small groups of individuals. Compared to other regions, Europe is often seen as lagging behind when it comes to a flourishing start-up scene. Experts explain this deficit with a lack of digital skills, marketing problems due to various languages and cultures, a fragmentation of European markets, a low level of funding and a different attitude towards risk. However, a closer look reveals that some European regions are hosting quite vibrant start-up communities which haven given birth to some of today’s global digital champions. With our panelists, we want to analyze the reasons for these disparities: Why are some regions much more successful in fostering innovative ideas than others? What can and should the EU do to create an optimal environment for start-ups throughout Europe? And how can the EU help that start-ups, once created, thrive and prosper? At the beginning of our event, three start-up founders will showcase what they do, how they got there and what obstacles they had to overcome. After this, the experts on our panel will give insights into their daily work and address the posed questions above.
