Details

Dubbed as „the lost generation“, around 7.5 million young Europeans are unemployed and have not yet

completed any vocational training or apprenticeship. High unemployment in many European countries is not only

threatening individual biographies, but also the future economic development in Europe. Well-developed

vocational-training systems provide specific professional qualifications and facilitate access to the labour market. They also give young people the opportunity to participate and engage socially and economically. However,

vocational training is failing to reach is full potential in many countries. Trade unions and employers alike can

contribute to actively creating educational opportunities and employment chances for Europe’s youth.

The study „Vocational Education and Training for Young People in Europe – Fostering mutual learning,

forging the future together“ puts forward appropriate policy recommendations to cope with this challenge.
