The Joint Africa-EU Partnership on Democratic Governance and Human Rights

by Denis Schrey
At the Lisbon EU-Africa Summit, a historic Joint Strategy was signed to govern the EU´s and Africa’s relationship, aiming at partnership and mutual accountability and thus moving beyond the recipient-donor relationship of the past. Having identified eight priority areas of collaboration in the EU-Africa Action Plan (2008-2010) there are numerous challenges laying ahead especially with regards to the implementation of commitments made in the Strategy and Action Plan. The conference report summarizes the results of a two days workshop, organized by the European Office of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and the European office of Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung on the second priority of the Africa-EU partnership on Democratic Governance and Human rights.
