Details

China has to strengthen its innovation capacities, if the country does not want to end in the so called “middle income trap”. Innovations are the precondition for a higher added value in the production and a sustainable development of the Chinese economy. Companies only invest in research and development (R&D), if their intellectual property is protected. Still, many patent law infringements occur in the People’s Republic, which is why foreign investors hesitate to shift their R&D departments to China. Also, the innovation capacity of small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) needs to be strengthened.

Against this background the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung | Shanghai together with the German-Chinese Institute of Law of Nanjing University organise a conference in Nanjing on the topic of “Patent Law and Innovation” on December 3rd. Renowned Chinese and international experts will discuss, how the system of intellectual property protection can be further improved and in which way the economic and legal framework has to be reconsidered. German experiences with the implementation of intellectual property protection will be an important part of the discussion.
