THE ROLE OF LATIN AMERICA

Experts participated at a round table organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in partnership with the Getulio Vargas Foundation and Catavento, to discuss the role of Latin America in the geopolitics of oil and gas.

At a roundtable organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in partnership with FGV Growth & Development and Catavento, experts discussed the topic of Energy Geopolitics in Latin America, focusing on the Brazilian and Latin American oil and gas market.

Jorge Marques de Toledo Camargo, President of the Brazilian Institute of Oil, Gas and Biofuels (IBP), invited as Keynote Speaker, presented an overview of the regional energy policy, with examples from Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil. His presentation was followed by a contribution ofRoberto Castello Branco, Institutional Director of FGV Growth & Development, who presented an economic approach to the causes and consequences of the oil crisis 2014/2015.

Invited Brazilian experts in the oil and gas industry, academics and diplomats analyzed the current developments of global energy policy and its impacts on the Brazilian and Latin American markets in order to identify the most important factors in determining the supply and demand of energy.

A delegation of German experts of the KAS Energy Network, formed by KAS fellows who are part of the Transatlantic Group, contributed to the debate with the European perspective. The discussions were moderated by Clarissa Lins, a founding partner of Catavento.
