The course had six sessions that took place from May 19 to June 23. Throughout these sessions, different SDGs were addressed that represent a challenge for the municipal management of Latin American cities. Each session featured an expert on the subject who, based on his experience and knowledge, provided relevant concepts, examples, and tools for the participants. Likewise, each session had a space for exhibition and exchange that served to discuss different perspectives and ideas of the participants.
In the first session, there was an introduction to the SDGs and their relationship with political action, by Gisela Elsner, Policy Advisor Global Sustainability of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The SDGs addressed in the following sessions were:
SDG 6: Water and Sanitation (Jose Luis Luegue, President of Ciudad Possible), SDG 7: Affordable and non-polluting energy (Natalia Moraes, director of ABRAPS), SDG 11: Cities and communities and SDG 13: Climate Action (Rodrigo Ditborn, Regional Business Development at SSG), SDG 8: Work and economic growth, SDG 9: Industry and Innovation, SDG 12: Sustainable production and consumption (Jorge Valverde, doctoral candidate in economics from the University of Maastricht) and SDG 1: End of Poverty, SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 5: Gender Equality (Paola García, Coordinator of the Knowledge Management Group at the Colombian Federation of Municipalities).
The course had 43 participants from 14 municipalities in Costa Rica, Chile, Peru, Colombia and Mexico. This course is a relevant part of the agenda of the Network of Sustainable Cities and Mayors for Democracy, a platform that aims to strengthen dialogue between the mayors of Latin America, dynamizing political and environmental activity, within the framework of democratic values and of green growth.
