About 130 students and legal professionals attended from 11 to 22 July 2016 in Belo Horizonte the XII Winter Course on International Law, a pioneering initiative of the International Law Center (CEDIN). The Regional Programme Energy Security and Climate Change in Latin America of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (EKLA-KAS) supported the organization of this twelfth edition of the course, specifically the realization of a panel on Sustainable Development and Energy Matrix in Latin America, which took place in the first three days of the event.
The course was taught by Professor Jorge Asturias, Director of Studies and Projects of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), who addressed topics such as the Latin American cooperation on climate and energy, the impact of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on the energy issue, and the important energy integration frameworks in Latin America.
This was an opportunity for law students to discuss climate and energy issues, a topic still uncommon in the basic program of legal training. These issues, however, have been receiving increasing attention from young professionals, and the approach to the subject from the Latin American perspective also proved to be a relevant contribution. The classes were always followed by intense debate and questions from participants.
