Reason to stay is a research project designed in 2022 and implemented between October 2023 and February 2024. Its goal is to explore ways to address the increasing shortage of doctors in Albania in the short, medium, and long term.

Specific objectives include: identifying current reasons why young doctors choose to leave Albania, focusing particularly on those from the last decade; pinpointing the most critical issues influencing the decision not to pursue a medical career in Albania; analyzing the attitudes and perceptions of over 500 students, general practitioners, and specialists who have been educated either partially or fully in Albania, with a deep dive into crucial topics and concerns; reviewing strategies that have been implemented or approved to date, and subsequently proposing policies aimed at improving the healthcare workforce in Albania and the overall healthcare system.
