The inventory of the European Union's competition problems contained in the Draghi report can be applied to any national economy. In the attempt to create a more competitive economy, some local specificities prove to be an advantage.
Romania has several such advantages, starting with the observations in the Draghi report: just improving economic policies can double the potential of the national economy and link it to a series of common policies with other states of the European Union to improve its geoeconomic position. Moreover, such a link to common policies could also give an economy - in this case Romania - a special place on the European economic map.
This analysis examines the potential to increase Romania's competitiveness and relates the main structural challenges of the economy to five critical points identified in the Draghi report. The study proposes concrete solutions adapted to the Romanian context that can have a multiplier effect at the level of the European Union's economy.
