During the event, the presenters discussed the ways that the landscape has been formed under the current political events in the USA and the EU, especially France and Germany, as well as the importance of a bilateral agreement for the citizens and the economies of the EU. Furthermore, they pointed out the facts that TTIP touches delicate topics such as the agriculture, data privacy and consumption products standards, since the public discussion on these topics is quite intense.
Dr. Galina Kolev, Head of the Research Group Macroeconomic analysis and Economy, Cologne Institute for Economic Research focused on the benefits the European Economy could derive by co-operating with the USA, the optimized access of the SME's of the EU in the American market as well as the specific benefits for the smaller production sectors of Greece.
Dr. Dimitris Doulos, Associate Professor of the Economics Department of Deree, mentioned the positive results of free commerce for the international economy and the fight against poverty. Furthermore, he pointed out the problematics of the TTIP negotiations and their proposed solutions.
Dr. Anna Visvizi, Assistant Professor in the International Business Department of Deree, projected the TTIP under the light of other commercial agreements of EU with its co-operates, which did not raise this kind of objections, examining at the same time questions on the role of the World Trade Organization in the same framework.
