Call for Proposals - Drones at Sea

With the war against Ukraine, drones have participated in warfare at sea for the first time and have achieved great successes against the Russian Black Sea Fleet. The Houthis were the first terrorists to use drones to attack civilian shipping. Drones are a new reality in naval warfare. Civil shipping has not yet been affected by this development, but drones could also play a decisive role here in the future. This study provides an overview or database of the previous use of drones in warfare at sea and in civilian ships. In addition, known development projects in the are to be described. In addition, the effects are to be predicted if some of the water drones currently under development can be used by forces or shipping companies. Drones do not find their way into the navy in naval warfare, but not just floating drones. They already complement the weapon systems of aircraft carriers. In the future, the drone carrier could take the place of the aircraft carriers. The study takes stock of existing and developing technology. The India Office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is pleased to announce a call for proposals for a paper on the hitherto under-explored topic of “Drones At Sea”.
