The focus of the round table discussion will be on the implications of China’s rapid and unprecedented economic growth as well as its consequent rise in global affairs that leads to a shift in global power-relations. China’s new position in the global order and its centrality in the Indo-Pacific do not contribute to facilitating the bilateral relationship between the Asian superpowers, India and China. During the seven decades of Sino-Indian relations, the relationship has never been an easy one. The unresolved border conflict, the Sino-Pakistani relations and discrepancies regarding the structuring of the trade relations have led to tensions in the past. Yet, it is critical for both countries to maintain their relationship. In the light of China’s rapid rise and economic growth, a deeper understanding of China’s motives and activities is vital, if India wants to occupy its legitimate space in global affairs. With “Understanding China in the 21st century” a most relevant topic not only for India but for the world as a whole has been chosen for the 3rd Chanakya- Chakra- Forum. Several notable speakers will debate the implications of China’s rise, especially regarding the topics of economy and trade as well as military and strategic issues.
