Receding glaciers, drying up of rivers and water bodies, as well as falling levels of ground water are an important part of overall environmental degradation. Lakes are drying up and river flows are also coming down. This has led to more and more dependence on ground water. But the levels of ground water are also under stress. This is causing conflicts at various levels, international, inter-state within India, and also at local levels. In many parts of India industrial activities are facing hostile communities due to conflicts of access to water resources. It is against this backdrop that this TERI-KAS Ressource Dialogue will take place.
