The Panchayati Raj in India is a political system of local self government. Historically, it was an assembly (ayat) of five (Panch) wise men selected by the villagers and who were supposed to arbitrate disputes on village level. Nowadays, the central government delegated some administrative functions to the Panchayati Raj and therefore gave more responsibility to the elected „Gram Panchayats“ (local self-government).
During the Workshop about the Panchayati Raj Curriculum on 11. and 12 November 2011 in New Delhi, which was organized by the KAS partner-network in India and Vishwa Yuvak Kendra taking a leading role, the draft of the Curriculum was analyzed and discussed with the aim of finalizing the Curriculum by March 2012.
A discussion with an expert, Prof. G. Palanithurai of the Deemed University in Gandhigram, took place after the second workshop about the Panjayati Raj Curriculum on the 09.12.11 in the premises of KAS-partner Vishwa Yuvak Kendra in Delhi. The professor discussed the modules in detail and gave suggestions to further improve the curriculum.
