On 09 March 2011 the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in India jointly organized with its Indian partner Confederation of Indian Bar (CIB) a half-day roundtable entitled "Basic Principles of the German Constitution and Parliamentarism. Besides the two members of the Bundestag Prof. Dr. Günter Krings and Ansgar Heveling, were the President of the Indian partner CIB, Pravin H. Parek and more than 30 lawyers and judges of the CIB, including representatives of the Supreme Courts in India, also attending.

After the introductory remarks of Judge Parek and a comparison of federal structures in India and Germany by judges Mukul Mudgal, MP Krings held a lecture on the principles of the German Basic Law and the characteristics of state of Germany. The focus during his presentation was on: parliamentary democracy, political parties, rule of law and the German Basic Law principle of proportionality.

In the following discussion the issues of federalism reform in Germany, the rights of minorities in the German Basic Law and the principle of "no freedom for the enemies of freedom" of greatest interest to the Indian participants.
