The impact of changes in policy rates on the demand for bank credit and thereby on the pace of economic activity in emerging market economies like India, is an interesting question. EMEs in the sample are Brazil, India, Chile, Korea, Mexico, South Africa and Turkey.
At the seminar, about 40 participants from politics, economy and the education sector were present. The seminar was at the same time the presentation of the study that Pandit elaborated together with Pankaj Vashisht, research associate at ICRIER, about the same topic. In this study, mainly the monetary policy efficiency in the years of 2002 until 2010 was examined. After the lecture, Pami Dua, Director of the Delhi School of Economics, discussed the study and gave further recommendations.
