Students of the Statesman Print Journalism School in discussion with Maneka Gandhi and Ajay Singh

Seminar on "Reasonable Restraint: Libel, Contempt and Breach of Legislative Privilege"

The current batch of the Statesman Print Journalism School (SPJS) had the privilege to go to Delhi and to attend the seminar about "Reasonable Restraint: Libel, Contempt and Breach of Legislative Privilege" which was organized by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in cooperation with the C.R. Irani Foundation and the SPJS on the 9. / 10. December 2011 in New Delhi.

Apart from the editor and managing director of The Statesman, Mr. Ravindra Kumar, highly distinguished representatives from politics and law were present. Amongst others, Mrs. Maneka Gandhi, MP and former Minister, as well as Mr. Ajay Singh, former MP and Minister, discussed the responsibility of journalistic reporting with the students. Mr. Pravin Parekh, Senior Advocate, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association and Mr. Samar Bansal, Advocate at the Delhi High Court, explained the legal consequences of a libel action to the soon-to-be journalists.

The Statesman Print Journalism School was founded in 2008 by the C.R. Irani Foundation in cooperation with the newspaper The Statesman and the KAS.
