Where is the Youth Voice in Cambodian Politics? - What can be done to remove youth engagement barriers in politics? Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Cambodia and the Club of Cambodian Journalists invite you to discuss about barriers, challenges and opportunities for youth participation in politics. Dr. Sandeep Shastri (Pro Vice Chancellor of the Jain University and Director, Centre for Research in Social Sciences and Education in Bangalore) and Dr Kai-Ping Huang (Assistant Professor, National Taiwan University in Taipei) will present South and East Asian perspectives on the phenomenon of missing Youth Participation in Asian politics. A Panel of Cambodian young politicians and civil society representatives will then discuss the Cambodian situation.
Cambodia is home to the largest youth and adolescent population in Southeast Asia, with one in five Cambodians between the age of 15 to 24 and almost two third of its approx. 15, 4 million people under the age of 30. Therefore, young people embody not only a great potential to drive future economic and social development, but also play a significant role within the field of politics not only in regard of the upcoming commune elections in June. A peaceful, prosperous and equitable future for Cambodia depends on motivating and connecting the creative energy of the young by providing and supporting diverse opportunities for political and civic engagement as well as by removing youth engagement barriers.
