At the beginning of February, the KAS office in Cambodia organized a ten-day training program on "mobile journalism" in cooperation with the JONA academy. Selected Cambodian and German students with a strong focus on journalism had the chance to learn from international experts how to use their own smartphone in order produce professional video stories without the need for costly equipment.
In addition to different apps for recording, editing and cutting their own short films, the students were able to get to know different interview techniques as well as the theoretical structure of interesting storytelling. Finally the goal was to create a video contribution on a self-chosen topic in mixed teams of two. The entertaining and highly successful results are available on the YouTube channel of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Cambodia.
Despite the long and intensive workshop the group had enough time for a cultural exchange. Various experts spoke about important topics related to politics, economy, the startup scene as well as women's rights in Cambodia. Furthermore the group did a city tour in Phnom Penh visiting the Genocide Museum, Wat Phnom Temple and the Cambodian Senate. All in all, the ten-day program was a success for everyone involved.
