FOOD SECURITY -WEST POKOT
DEVELOPMENT OF POLITICAL AND LOBBY DOCUMENTS FOR FOOD SECURITY AND EARLY WARNING SYSTEMS
KAS Kenya office held a one day county level and a subsequent two days sub-county level training in West Pokot on how to undertake successful lobbying on areas of food security and disaster risk reduction. The training brought together 20 partner CSOs that deal in areas of food security and disaster management. The main areas of discussions were development if various political lobby documents, power mapping, evidence generation and joint analysis of West Pokot County Fiscal Strategy Paper. The participants were able to analyse the CFSP and Annual Development Plan for 2020/2021 and further presented a Memo to the County Budget and Economic Forum team thus lobbying for more budget allocation for food security, especially agriculture and pastoral economy departments. This move was appreciated by the CSOs due to t heir increased capacity regarding political lobbying. They appreciated KAS for supporting such a forum that will go along in ensuring they effectively participate in various public forums to lobby for better programs regarding food security.
