Journalists from seven radio stations in Mozambique and Angola attended an Investigative Radio Reporting course in Johannesburg.
The course, which was facilitated by Daniel and Deborah Walter of Community Media for Development (CMFD) was instructed in Portuguese.
Main topics of the training dealt with questions around the production of radio programmes, in-depth research, gaining facts and figures and the parallel conducted Wits Power Reporting Workshop (PRW) of which the course participants where also delegates. LINK
Investigative journalist Manuel Vieira of the Angolan Radio station Ecclesia highlighted, in a guest lecture at the course, the importance of how to approach story ideas, answered questions on how to find the right information to support a story and how to analyze the collected material. His in depth experience of the current Angolan situation enriched the participants learning further.
The course content helped the participants to concentrate on and understand the important issues of the PRW by providing the necessary knowledge in the field of investigative reporting. The result was a radio magazine which was produced during the course covering issues around investigative journalism.
