Johannesburg is a very dodgy place, it least that’s how it’s portrayed in the western media. I found this rather hard to believe and decided to come check it out for myself. So now I’m in Johannesburg to do some research, dive into the city life and above all work and learn at the Media Programme for the sub-Sahara Africa.
My name is Julia Schappert and I study geography, journalism and ethnology in Mainz (Germany). As a scholarship holder of the journalist training programme, I was able to attend several workshops of the foundation in Germany. As a intern at the foundation I now have first hand experience in organizing workshops and I’m looking forward to meeting committed young journalists from all over Africa.
