Details

Gumenyuk is the founder and CEO of the Public Interest Journalism Lab (PIJL), which fosters constructive dialogue around complex societal issues. Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Gumenyuk pivoted to frontline media reporting and with her team, co-founded The Reckoning Project: Ukraine Testifies, which documents war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Russia. In 2023, under Gumenyuk's leadership within the “Connecting The Continents” initiative, PIJL brought to Ukraine senior editors, public intellectuals, and journalists from Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Her work not only provides crucial evidence but also emphasizes the resilience and democratic values at stake in Ukraine’s fight.

The roundtable, hosted by KAS Media Africa and the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre, aims to create a platform for key voices in South African media to explore the implications of this war through an African perspective. The conversation will delve into the experiences of covering the conflict, the role of journalists, and the unique viewpoints African media can bring to the global narrative on war and justice.
