From the knowledge of successful media managers, the newest publication of the KAF Media programme was composed: the manual “Revenue Generation for Robust African Media”. In a joint venture with the Sol Plaatje Institute for Media Leadership the KAF published this collection of different essays and analyses, which are based on one common theme: more financial independence through successful media management.
The different subject essays are the result of the 6th Media Leadership Conference, which took place in Cape Town, from 19 – 22 August 2007. Out of a total of 14 countries the managers and editors in chief met to discuss the subject of “Revenue Generation for Robust Media”, versus the resisting developments in the media sector. As in previous years, the conference did not just create network opportunities between media managers, but also an profound debate about ongoing challenges in the management area. The discussions revolved around the question of strategies in the over-saturated newspaper industry, of a model of success for setting up a private / commercial radio station or of general trends in advertising market.
By publishing “Revenue for Robust African Media” the KAF Media Programme makes knowledge and experience in different media areas available to the interested public. The manual not only aims to promoting the exchange of ideas, but also to providing models and strategies for media guidance, that guarantees a financial, as well as political independence.
