Event reports
For the first time, tweets, photos and presentations were uploaded during a conference. To afford this, the media programme established a weblog which about 60 participants from 20 countries could use autonomously. The participants could upload photos via a photo community, which some minutes later appeared in the blog. The opening address to the participants was shortly before spoken as the first photos were available in the internet.
Furthermore, presentations of several speakers were uploaded so that they also appeared in the blog and user could download it for further studies worldwide. However, there were some problems due to the size of several data documents but these will be eliminated in time of the next Africa Media Leadership Conference.
Follower commented beyond the African continent
To keep the blog as animated as possible, a rubric with tweets were added to it. In the first time, only a few attendants participated in it. By in by, additional users out of the delegates took part in the updates. The more tweets were published out of the conference the more the international participation increased because the five most favoured delegates had more than 7440 so called followers, other users which constantly tune in to their messages. Other participants and their followers increased this figure further.
The success didn’t stay away. Primarily blog entries from several African countries, e.g. from the American Embassy in Pretoria, but also messages from the Google University in California and entries from the Carribean joined the blog and revived it. A lot of praises and interests on the subject were expressed, but they also produced concrete contributions and comments with regards to the content.
The consequence was that our conference was not only discussed in a small circle of chosen delegates and their media companies. The topics of the conference were perceived by thousands of peoples worldwide. An effect which can be positively used in the future international work of the foundation.
