News from Asia to the World – Discussions on ANN’s Future Strategies

ANN Editors‘ Meeting

What news from Asia is most interesting for the rest of the world? And how do Asian journalists reach an international audience? More than 20 editors of the Asia News Network (ANN) discussed these and more issues during the two-day Editors' Meeting in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The Media Programme Asia of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) invited more than 20 editors of its institutional partner ANN to a workshop. This year’s meeting mainly focused on the decentralisation of editorial offices, especially on the communication between the 21 ANN members and the ANN news desks in Bangkok (Thailand) and Delhi (India). Due to the just recently opened Indian news desk, ANN takes advantage of the various time zones and is able to report news from Asia more than 15 hours daily. Besides the quantity, the editors also discussed the quality of ANN stories. In several workshops, participants thought about specific topics and planned future stories that will be produced across national and editorial boundaries. Additionally, the editors discussed possibilities to reach an international target group and how to follow the latest trends of (mobile) Internet.
