With the proliferation of smart phone technology and internet penetration, vast amounts of information has become readily accessible to millions across the developing world. Regrettably, this has led to vast amounts of misinformation infusing itself into the data pool - free for societal consumption. While the merits of media literacy can only be expected in the long term, it is now more than ever that journalists need to be held to the highest standard of credibility.
To address this, the KAS Media Programme Asia supported an online workshop conducted by DataLEADS on the topic of fact checking, data cleaning and data visualization. This online workshop was put together for media practitioners based in Afghanistan and made use of hyperlocal case studies and data sets. The workshop aims to imbue confidence in attendees, to harness the power of data and inspire the narratives and voices that come out of Afghanistan to the rest of the world.
