Gathering distinguished journalists, editors, and publishers from around the world under the theme "Navigating Crises: Journalism at a Turning Point", the event provided a platform for media professionals to explore innovative solutions and critically examine the pivotal role of media by  addressing the crises of our time. Held  at a historic location – at the hotel that served as a base for journalists during the siege of Sarajevo, the conference offered an opportunity to hear stories from the past told byprominent journalists and dedicated to uncovering the truth in conflict zones. In addition to the challenges faced by journalists covering conflicts and war crimes, ethical considerations and the media's role in seeking truth and justice were also robustly discussed. Attendees gained insights from firsthand stories and experiences from journalists working in conflict-ridden regions and ongoing wars, while also sharing experiences in managing other crises, including those related to climate change, challenges to democratic institutions, threats to their work, limitations due to inadequate equipment, and the impact of artificial intelligence.
The 2024 IPI World Congress was also attended by the other two KAS Media Programmes based in Johannesburg and Singapore respectively. This provided an opportunity for journalists coming from three different continents to communicate and establish a global network of contacts.
