Multilateralism and international governance systems are increasingly challenged by populist voices emphasizing nationalism over shared goals and common values. The value systems developed after the Second World War and taken as universal achievements cannot be taken for granted anymore; the next generation of leaders on both sides of the Atlantic is grappling with a new world order. In the run-up to Germany’s non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council in 2019, join us for a discussion about multilateralism and Germany’s global engagement.

Frances A. Devlin is Director of Global Policy & International Public Affairs at Pfizer Inc. In this capacity, she leads development and implementation of public policy and government relations strategies in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Ms. Devlin’s previous position was the Chief of Staff and Director of Strategic Initiatives & External Engagement, and she has served in various Corporate Affairs roles since joining the company in 2008. Prior to working at Pfizer, she was a fundraising and public affairs consultant for major national political and charitable campaigns. She serves on the ACG’s Board of Directors and was an ACG Young Leader in 2012.

Paul Ziemiak assumed his duties as Federal Chairman of the Junge Union in September 2014. During the German federal election in 2017, he successfully ran for a seat in the electoral district of Herne-Bochum II and is now a member of the Bundestag. He has served in various roles within the CDU, including Chairman of the CDU Iserlohn, a member of the CDU Federal Board, and a member of the state executive board of CDU NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia). During his trip to New York, he is joined by the Chairmen of the Junge Union from the Federal States of Baden-Württemberg, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, North Rhine-Westphalia, Thuringia, and Saarland.

There is no charge to attend this event. RSVP (acceptances only) to newyork@kas.de.
