Capacity Building Workshop for Public Account Committees of State Houses of Assembly

Promoting Democratic and Good Governance

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in partnership with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) is starting a series workshops to build the capacity of the Chairmen, Members and secretaries of Public Account Commitees of Plateau, Cross River, Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Enugu, Abia, Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Ondo and Nasarawa States Houses of Assembly.

As part of the numerous recommendations made in the series of workshops conducted for the State Houses of Assembly in 2020 and early 2021, the capacity building for the Public Account Committees is coming as a major contribution towards supporting and promoting democratic institutions in KAS focal states and in Nigeria in general. Amongst topics to be covered is Powers, Functions and Challenges of Public Accounts Committees; Types, Procedure and Template for Reporting PAC Activities: Measuring the Effectiveness of Public Accounts Committees; Understanding the Relevant Oversight Documents: Annual Reports, Other Financial/ Accountability Statements; Data in Strategic Communication and Image Management in the Legislature; Role of Public Accounts Committees in Curbing Corruption; Developing a Work Plan and Best Practices of Public Accounts Committees Operations; and The Role of Parliamentary Support Staff in the Effectiveness of PACs. The workshop is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support towards sustaining democracy, governance, and Security Sector Reform in Nigeria.
