Mr. Colins Imoh, the technical adviser of CHDST, welcomed all participants, followed by a key note address from National Orientation Agency (NOA) and presentations on climate change and peace building and Youth, Peace and Sexuality presented by Otubor Dennis.
The days the camp was packed with activities. Students were taught Communication Skills, and introduced to Young Women in Peace Building/processes, followed by the concepts of Entrepreneurship and Industrial Technology (I.T). Dr. Austen Sado took the children through Communication Skill for Youth Development. Sessions with lectures about “The Role of Young Persons in Sustaining Peace and Development” and “Building Responsible Youth as Agent of Change” were held and an excursion to PABOD breweries was also included in the program. A planned excursion to the High Court and House of Assemblies could not happen because of the political and security situation in the state.
The last day of the peace camp was devoted to strategies for developing the peace clubs in the schools. The students were divided into clusters of schools and worked out the strategies under the facilitation by Mr. Imoh Colins Edozie.
Mr. Imoh in his closing address encouraged the students to implement what they have learnt in the camp because the whole essence of organizing this peace camp for students was to make a change in their own little ways. They could affect the lives of fellow students who did not have the opportunity to attend the peace camp and transfer the knowledge to have a multiplier effect. A certificate was presented to each of the student and the teachers who attended the 5 day peace camp.
