Workshop
Details
Violent conflicts are not rare in Nigeria. They often emerge along ethnic or religious cleavages. Sensational and irresponsible news coverage provoked an escalation of existing tensions in the past.
In this workshop therefore, Nigerian journalists get the possibility to discuss with each other as well as with experts ethic standards of conflict reporting. The aim of the workshop is to strengthen the awareness of journalists, especially in conflict-ridden contexts, and therewith to advance de-escalating news coverage.
The meeting in Lafia is part of a series of workshops held in Maiduguri, Ibadan, Owerri, Jos, Kano and Enugu. For this reason, our partner JDPC Ibadan can rely on proved concepts and methods of journalistic writing, which should avoid the heating of existing trouble spots. Especially with regard to the elections next year, this is of particular concern.
