Workshop
Details
Conflicts in Nigeria often emerge along ethnic or religious cleavages. In the past, tensions have often been fostered by irresponsible news coverage that provoked further escalation.
In this workshop, Nigerian journalists get the opportunity to discuss ethical standards of conflict reporting among their peers and external experts. The aim of this workshop is to strengthen awareness of journalistic responsibility in conflict-ridden contexts, so that deescalating news coverage becomes possible.
The meeting in Maiduguri is part of a series of workshops held in Ibadan, Owerri, Jos, Kano and Enugu. For this reason our partner JDPC is able to produce a range of methods and concepts that may help to prevent journalistic writing from becoming the promoter of further violence - especially in the wake of next year's elections.
