Rivers State which lies in the oil rich Niger-Delta region of Nigeria has witnessed many violent conflicts which became aggravated by elections in the past. Ahead of the 2019 elections, the two major political parties are warming up to reclaim the state. The opposition party at the national level, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has been ruling the state since 1999, and the last governor who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last months of his administration before the 2015 elections is a formidable force to recon with as far as elections are concerned in the state. Among the expected participants at this roundtable are the resident electoral commissioner for Rivers State, local government caretaker committee members, members of the executive arm as well as relevant state ministries, departments and agencies, traditional as well religious leaders, civil society organizations, members of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), security agencies especially the police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).
