Security Sector Reform in Nigeria

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in cooperation with Nigeria’s House of Representatives’ Committee on Army is organizing the second dialogue seminar in the series for the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria in 2019, for heads of security agencies and leaders of civil society in the zone. The seminars are aimed at creating and strengthening platforms for dialogue to achieve sustainable interagency collaboration among security agencies and cooperation between security agencies and citizens.

Details

This seminar is a follow-up to the one held in May 2019 for stakeholders in the region, which developed agenda and roadmaps for achieving fruitful cooperation among stakeholders in the security management chain, to tackle the rising cases of organized crimes including militancy, oil bunkering, armed robbery, kidnapping, and cultism ravaging the South-South zone.

This follow-up engagement would further buttress the need for deepening the dialogue and strategies towards achieving sustainable collaboration by appraising the gains made from earlier sessions and reinforce areas for further assistance and engagement towards achieving lasting peace in the South-South region. Furthermore, this seminar would expand platforms for building trust, confidence and information sharing among personnel of the various security agencies, and also enhance cooperation between security agencies and civilian citizens.

The seminar is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support to the Security Sector Reform in Nigeria. This program is funded by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
