Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, is witnessing unprecedented upsurge in processions and protests by religious and political groups whose activities often end in violent confrontations with security agencies. The quest to preserve the sanity in the FCT and tackle the increasing cases of armed robbery, car jerking, kidnapping and violent extremism has over-stretched the patience of security agencies. In order to continually expand the platforms for harmonious relationship and cooperation between security agencies and citizens, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is organizing a roundtable meeting for leaders of the various stakeholders groups including professional bodies, community leaders, associations, religious leaders, civil society, and security agencies among others to dialogue on ways of improving the relationship between security agencies and citizens. The objective of the meeting is to expose the security agencies to the principles of human rights, right to protect, and benefits of good relationship with citizens. On the other hand, citizens would understand the roles and importance of security agencies and how they can support security agencies through information sharing and vigilance. The roundtable meeting is one of the fundamental activities of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung towards supporting the Security Sector Reform in Nigeria by promoting dialogue, information sharing and cooperation in order to improve the trust, confidence and relationship between citizens and security agencies. This program is funded by the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany.
