Workshop
Details
With the State House of Assembly elections being concluded on 9th of March 2019, about seventy per cent of the members-elect are new legislators, who have no experience with the workings, expectations and mandates of legislature. The parliament being a new terrain demands that the members-elect get an orientation to be able to perform their functions
Among the resource persons at this workshop are Dr. Tunji Ogunyemi, from university of Ife, who will introduce the concept of the separation of power according to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic Nigeria, while barrister Ayuba Gongu (mni), Clerk Plateau State House of Assembly shall be taking the members-elect through legislative functions, process, power, ethics and privileges in the legislature among other topics.
Finally, every House of Assembly being a melting pot for divergent views and expectations from the legislators who represent different constituencies is bound to witness a fair share of conflicts of interest, this is a reason why at this workshop there will be a session on introduction to conflict management by Prof. Tajudeen Akanji from Institute for Peace and Strategic studies (IPSS), University of Ibadan.
