Details

This year’s training took place at the Ogomudia Hall of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics from July 8 -10, 2014 for about 100 Nigerian army officers and other security agencies.

As it is known, the duties before the Nigeria military have gone beyond protecting the sovereignty of the nation against external aggression. Peacekeeping missions in and out of the country have become integral part of their duties.

Since the return of Nigeria to democracy in 1999, there has been a need to engage the armed forces to entrench their role in democratic governance following return to civil rule in the country. These necessitated the design of the project “Capacity Building in Conflict Management and Peacebuilding for the Nigerian Military”. The aim was to bridge the gaps in skills and training provided for peacekeeping troops and personnel in charge of Internal Security Operations (ISOs).

Some of topics of the training are : Understanding Conflicts; Actors and Stakeholders in Conflicts; Gender Issues in Peace and Security; Conflict Analysis; Analysis Tools; Understanding Peace Concepts – Peacemaking, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding; Negotiation – Peacebuilding Skill; Mediation – Peacebuilding Skill

The lecturers were Dr. Naomi Akpan-Ita; Mr. C. Martin; Colonel Taiwo Adebayo
